Things Men Can Do To Chalk Up Their Fashion Game

For this particular blog, I framed a question to understand men’s approach towards fashion and I discovered an interesting pattern. According to my derivation, men do not mind learning about fashion if the information pertaining to that comes across the way, in the form of a post on their feed or a news piece sent by someone else. However, there are very few men who actually move a step ahead and look up for trends and accommodate it into their wardrobe. So this one is for the men in my own circle (giggles).

Firstly, I want to burst the myth pertaining to men’s fashion that there is not a lot that can be done here. Having keen observation on buying and wearing the right kind of clothes holds equal relevance to men because it shapes their personality in both professional and personal spheres. It is a very broad idea and hence I want to narrow it down to some of the relatively less thought upon factors, which can actually turn the men’s wardrobe more chic and fashionable.

1. Play with more colours and prints

Refrain yourself from the regular lazy shopping and browse through the array of colours and designs which the fashion houses have carefully curated to serve your taste. Explore pastel shades with linen fabrics, or even our Indian handloom prints like kalamkari, ajrak, etc to have something suitable for every occasion. Go for the greens and peaches next time you hit the stores to do away with those colour blocks.

Here’s a look from Gucci’s 2020 pre-fall collection. It testifies to the notion that men can pull off a combination of solid colours in a single outfit and also pair it with printed accessories. The wide leg pants can go with any designer belt and tucked in jersey t-shirt for a perfect street-style look.

2. Accessing Accessories

Before you begin flaunting your designer watch collections, here’s to inform you that men’s accessories is a broader zone to tap into. Fendi’s 2020 Spring Collection introduced very voguish men’s satchel bags for office and travel and you can have one of your own because of its utilitarian nature. Pins/brooches are complete go-to for an edgy look and the detailing looks completely effortless yet sharp. Bracelets are way where you can personalise your look a bit and make a statement while you are out there. Scarf is an excellent accessory to highlight your jawlines and add that extra element to your regular shirt. Moving a notch ahead with your look and including some of these accessories will definitely make you feel radiant and confident.

3. Semi Formal > Casual

This pointer is something that you can keep in mind for all your future social gatherings and dates. Moving your outfits a bit here and there can create an impressionable look for your parties and dinners. Try pairing your t-shirt and jeans with a blazer, or pair your favourite ripped denims with the shirt tucked out and a loosened tie to create that playful look. It definitely gives a better impact than your regular tees and pants. Winters would be great time to explore these looks by pairing your funky jackets with shirts, or knit sweaters and trench-coats. For your vacation looks, you can go for trouser shorts and linen shirts for a sharp yet casual look. According to me, semi-formal is definitely the next casual (conflicting opinions may apply).

4. Skincare

Apart from the industry people, skincare negligence is pretty prominent among men. A survey report from the University of San-Francisco suggests that 40% of men globally have never tried any skincare product designed by the skincare companies, as of January, 2020. A large population of the remaining 60% claim to have used it once or twice.

It’s essential to understand that the only thing setting the female skin apart from the male is the facial hair and hence, it is equally important for men to follow a skincare routine. Your look will remain incomplete without applying the right sunscreen or moisturizer and having regular face washes. It will keep you fresh and your skin hydrated and will definitely enhance your look.

5. Versatility

Continuously experimenting with your looks will also exalt the perception of your style in the observer’s mind. Break the monotony by dressing differently for every occasion because if you’ve read the first four points, there is definitely a lot to work with. Hair and beard styling can also give you brownie points for being fashion forward. The key is not to follow completely, but understand the kind of look which you can confidently carry and move ahead with.

Hope my blog has given you something to start with or look forward to. I would definitely be interested to listen to your perspective on this, so you’re free to share your comments below. Follow for more updates and hope you’re doing well in this quarantine situation!
